NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS
POST 1845
Memorial Day in Texas: Every Memorial Day Scarborough Faire Renaissance Festival located in Waxahachie Texas honors military veterans. Upon entering the festival each veteran is given a yellow sash and invited to march in a parade later in the day. This year under cloudy skies and temperate conditions more than forty-five ranks of four columns marched behind our national and service colors. Among the ranks were four SAMS members of new Post 1845 that serves the NE Texas area. Marching were William Stevens, Post Commander; Thomas Duncan, Post Adjutant; Catherine MacWilliams, Post Quartermaster and Jerry Collier, Post founding member. One of the most enjoyable experiences, especially for those of us in the military in the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s, was the amount of thanks received from all in attendance before, during and after the parade. A pleasant surprise was the interest in SAMS from many of the attendees. The Post will definitely march again next year, hopefully behind a Post color guard. We invite all SAMS members to join us. We also invite all to join us for our Post meeting in August or at the SAMS tent at the Salado Scottish Clan Gathering and Highland Games in November.
